The commission activities are mainly focused on the organization of collaborative botanical explorations of poorly known Mediterranean areas called ITINERA Mediterranea. A synopsis of the Itinera Mediterranea is available here.
The 14th OPTIMA Iter will be held in Georgia from 10 to 22 July 2022. Please, contact the Secretariat for all the details .
In 2017 was organized the 13th OPTIMA Iter in Albania from 21 June to 3 July. This scientific expedition has been organized in cooperation with the Flora and Fauna Research Center of the University of Tirana led by prof. Alfred Mullaj. An overview of this mission is available here.
In 2014 was organized the 12th OPTIMA Iter in Tunisia from 24 March to 4 April. This Iter was organized one year in advance in collaboration with ATUTAX (Association Tunisienne de Taxonomie). The principal sets of herbarium specimens, sorted, packed and dispatched by care of the Herbarium Mediterraneum, were distributed in conformity with a previous agreement among the participants. In all, 1374 gatherings were made from 43 localities. They belong to 82 families and 539 species or subspecies. The results have been published on Bocconea 27(1).
New contacts are in act to organize further OPTIMA iters in the next years.
