This Committee stood ready to assist the Herbarium Mediterraneum Foundation in Palermo with the publication of its two journals, ´Flora Mediterranea` and ´Bocconea`.

In 1991 the Herbarium Mediterraneum sent, for the first time, the journal ´Flora Mediterranea` to all regular members of OPTIMA free of charge. Volumes 2-6 were distributed in the following years.

In the same year1991 the starting volume of ´Bocconea` was offered by the Herbarium Mediterraneum to all OPTIMA members as part of its promotion campaign for that journal. Meanwhile the volumes 2-6 were published .

Ever since this two journals have been published periodically.

  2008. The Herbarium Mediterraneum published the 18th volume of Flora Mediterranea, which was distributed to the regular members of OPTIMA free of charge. Volume 22 of Bocconea, entitled “Check-list of the Hornworts, Liverworts and Mosses of Italy”, was also published; it is sent free of charge to Institutional Members, and is available at reduced price to Ordinary Members.
Publication of the Newsletter No. 28 is due in spring 2009. It will be distributed to the membership in electronic format, and placed for free download by anyone interested on the OPTIMA Website. A small number of hard copies (150) ia being produced archival purposes, to be distributed to Institutional Members and sold at (or below) cost (5 €) to interested Personal Members.
2007. The Commission met in Pisa. The Herbarium Mediterraneum published the 17th volume of Flora Mediterranea, which was distributed to the regular members of OPTIMA free of charge. Volume 20 of Bocconea entitled “A Catalogue of plants growing in Sicily” and volume 21 entitled “Proceedings of the XI OPTIMA Meeting Beograd, 5-11 September 2004” were also published.
Authors of papers in Flora Mediterranea and Bocconea will henceforth receive a .pdf file of their article, as this is nowadays more convenient than hard-copy reprints.
Publication of the Newsletter is to resume in 2008, in electronic format for distribution to the membership and in a small number of hard copies, for archival purposes and distribution to Institutional Members. Personal members may purchase the Newsletter for an extra 5 €.
2006. The Herbarium Mediterraneum published the 16^th volume of Flora Mediterranea, which was distributed to the regular members of OPTIMA free of charge. Volume 19 of Bocconea entitled, “Proceedings of the VI Conference on Plant Taxonomy Alghero, 31 May – 2 June 2003” was also published.
2005. The Herbarium Mediterraneum published the 15^th volume of Flora Mediterranea, which was distributed to the regular members of OPTIMA free of charge. Volume 18 of Bocconea entitled, “Identification Key and Description of Mediterranean Maquis Litter Micro-Fungi” by M. Pasqualetti was also published.
2004. The Herbarium Mediterraneum published the 14^th volume of Flora Mediterranea, which was distributed to the regular members of OPTIMA free of charge. Volume 17 of Bocconea on the III Iter Mediterraneum to Sicily in 1990 was also published.
